KepKai: Project Overview

Core Concept & Value Proposition 🎯

The KepKai job marketplace is a Mobile-first Web Application designed to connect individuals and businesses with local service providers for short-term "part-time work" (short-term  contacts) or gig jobs. It serves as a community-driven platform for finding and offering quick, on-demand services such as plumbing, house cleaning, mechanics, drivers, and more in South Africa.

The platform's value proposition is to provide a protected, convenient, and localized connection between those who need a task done and those who can do it. Revenue is generated through monetizing in-app chat connection: buyers pay with tokens to unlock job poster’s name and in-app chat messaging. NB: Phone numbers and email addresses are exchanged in the in-app chat with mutual consent. This makes the platform accessible for everyone, with no upfront cost to post a job.

Platform Structure & Content 🛠️

The app is built around a single primary category—Gig Jobs—with sub-categories for precise filtering and searching.

• Gig Jobs: All types of short-term tasks and services. Advanced filters will include job type (e.g., plumbing, cleaning, driving), location, duration, and price.

• Categories: The system will use a predefined list of categories to help users find the right service provider quickly. Examples, not all, include:

  • Home Services (Plumbing, Electrical, Cleaning)

  • Automotive (Mechanic, Towing, Detailing)

  • Handyman & Repairs

  • Personal Services (Hairdressing, Personal Trainer)

Key Features & Functionalities ⚙️

User Accounts

• Single User Account: All users operate from a single, primary account. The same account is used for posting jobs, browsing listings, and managing tokens.

• Simple Registration: Users can sign up via email or Google. Browsing is open to all, but posting a job or contacting a service requester/ client requires a signed-in account.

Listing & Search

• Free and Detailed Listings: Anyone can post a gig job for free. Each listing will include specific details relevant to the job, such as:

  • Job Title and Description

  • Location (street, city, or neighborhood)

  • Duration (e.g., 1 hour, half-day, 1 week)

  • Price or Rate

• Advanced Filtering: Users can refine searches with category-specific filters (e.g., job type, duration) in addition to generic filters like location and price range.

• Job Listing Period: All job listings automatically expire after 5 days. After this period, the poster can choose to re-list the job or delete the entry. The "Relist" action is free of charge, but a new 5-day expiration timer will be applied (post timer and contact locking is reset for everyone including those who had unlocked it before). All the previous statistics related to this particular post is reset to zero, treated like a new post.

• Automatic job listing delete: If an expired job listing is not re-posted or re-listed again within the next 48 hours of its expiration, it will automatically be deleted permanently from the user’s dashboard and from the whole system, together with all its related chats and related dashboard data (likes, views, and contact unlock counts). This saves storage space and keeps the user’s dashboard clean.

Project Details

1. User Dashboard & Experience Flow 🧑‍💻

The user dashboard is the central hub for all users, whether they are posting a job or looking for one.

• Header: Displays the user's name and real-time token balance.

• My Jobs: A dedicated section for the user's own job listings. This is where they can manage active posts (edit, suspend, delete), view performance metrics (views, likes), and re-list expired jobs.

• Saved Listings & Searches: A section to access "liked" jobs or saved search filters (e.g., "Plumber in Harare, under $50").

• Transaction History: An immutable ledger detailing all token movements, including purchases, spends on contact unlocks, and referral bonuses.

• In-App Inbox (Makuru Chat): A central hub for all communications. Users can only initiate a chat with a job poster after paying 5 coins/tokens to unlock the contact information (name and in-app chat). Every in-app chat is tied to a specific post. When the listing post expires or is deleted, the chat is also deleted. Phone numbers and email addresses are shared while communicating in Makuru chat with a mutual consent between the two. Makuru Pick does not share phone numbers and email addresses with the public.

• Referrals: A screen to manage referral codes and track bonus tokens.

• Account Settings: Standard profile and security settings.

2. The Poster's Management View & Analytics 📊

This section is integrated into the primary user dashboard, providing a streamlined experience for those who post jobs.

• Dashboard Overview:

  • Key Stats: A high-level summary of posting activity, including the number of active and expired listings, cumulative views, and likes.

  • Contact Unlocks: The number of times users have paid to unlock contact information for any of the poster's listings. This metric is a key indicator of value provided by the platform.

• Detailed Functionalities:

  • Listing Management:

    • Categorized Views: Listings are organized into Published (active), Suspended (active post removed from the public pages) and Expired.

    • Action Buttons: Each listing card will have clear actions: Edit, Suspend, Delete, and Relist (for expired jobs). The "Relist" action is free of charge, but a new 5-day expiration timer will be applied (post timer and contact locking is reset for everyone).

  • The "Smart Form" for Listing Upload:

    • The form will dynamically adapt based on the selected category, showing relevant fields for the specific gig.

    • No image is uploaded, not required.

    • Listing card preview ensuring high-quality visuals for listings.

  • Performance Analytics: A dedicated page for each listing showing its views, likes, and a crucial metric—the number of times buyers have unlocked the contact details.
    
    3. The Token Economy Ecosystem

    The token system is identical to the KepKai platform, ensuring consistency and a robust financial model.

    • Wallet System: Each user has a unique wallet ID for token transactions.

      • Source Wallet: The single source of all tokens, pre-seeded with 1 billion tokens.

      • Revenue Wallet: The central vault where all spent tokens are deposited.

        

    • The Token Cycle:

      • Purchase: The user buys tokens via a mobile money payment gateway (Paystack).

      • Transaction: Tokens are debited from source wallet and credited to the user's wallet.

      • Spend: The user spends tokens to unlock a contact. There are no listing charges, as all posts are free.

      • Collection: Tokens are debited from the user's wallet and credited to the system revenue wallet.

    • Contact Unlock Charges: A single, standardized token fee will be applied for all contact unlocks, regardless of the job category. A fixed price of x tokens, provides a simple and consistent value proposition.

    4. The Independent KepKai Admin Dashboard App: 

    The admin app remains a separate, secure application for centralized control and oversight.

  • 

    • Modules: The app will have dedicated modules for User & Account Management, Content & Listing Management, Revenue & Token Management, and Analytics & Reporting, and other crucial functionalities.

    • Key Admin Functions:

      • User & Account Management: Suspend accounts, manually verify users if needed, and view/adjust user token wallets.

    5. Public Listing Pages & Search Filters

    The public view is tailored for those seeking a service provider.

    • Listing Page Card (Summary View):

      • Visuals: A primary screen adaptive job card. No image is required.

      • Key Details: Listing title, price/rate, estimated duration, description (preview part of description) and location/town.

      • Social & Engagement Metrics: Views and likes.

    • Detailed Listing View (After Clicking):

      • All card details in the summary view.

      • Detailed Description: Full description of the gig.

      • Specifications: A detailed list of specs (e.g., job duration, required skills if any).

      • Concealed Poster Info: The poster's information is hidden by a semi-transparent overlay and can only be unlocked with tokens. Only name and access to the in-app chat (KepKai Chat) will be concealed and shared after unlocking. Phone numbers and email addresses are shared while communicating in KepKai chat with a mutual consent between the two. KepKai does not share phone numbers and email addresses with the public.

      • Calls to Action: "Get in touch" button (to unlock/uncover contact name and in-app chat tied to the listing), and other options like "Like" and "Share Listing."

    • Search Filters: The search will be customized for the gig market.

      • Generic Filters: Location/Town, Price Range, Date Listed, and Duration.

      • Category-Specific Filters: The search will be based on the predefined gig categories.

      • Sorting: By Price (low/high), Date (new/old), and Relevance.
